The Worst Call in NFL History: Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Green Bay Packer M.D. Jennings intercepts Seattle Seahawks Hail Mary

Monday Night Football has left NFL fans scratching their heads after the worst call in the history of football took place.

On Sept. 24, 2012, the Green Bay Packers played the Seattle Seahawks, and the unthinkable happened.

Seattle threw a Hail Mary pass and it was intercepted by the Green Bay Packers.

Two replacement refs made opposite calls on the play, one an interception and the other a Touchdown, and the Touchdown call won out.

The Packers clearly intercepted the ball, which left Green Bay fans fuming. Packer's safety M.D. Jennings grabbed the pass out of the air and secured it to his chest. Seattle wide receiver Golden Tate was seen shoving Green Bay's cornerback Sam Shields. The play should have been called a pass interference.

Instead both Golden Tate and M.D. Jennings maintained possession of the ball in the endzone. NFL rules state that a simultaneous catch awards the play to the offensive player, giving Seattle a touchdown - and the game.

The Seattle Seahawks beat the Green Bay Packers 14-10 on Monday night.

The replacement refs are getting a lot of flak for this incident, and the moniker, the "worst call in NFL history."

Even the Green Bay Packers coach, Mike McCarthy said, "I've never seen anything like that in all my years of football," adding "...very unusual. Most unusual game I've been a part of."

Sports writer Dan Wetzel is saying that such a flub in officiating should be dealt with immediately by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Sports writer Michael Silver believes the Seahawks received an extraordinary gift from the officials on Monday night.

Troy Aikman (NFL Hall of Fame) had something to say about this on Twitter: "These games are a joke,"  LeBron James also tweeted "I simply just LOVE the NFL too much to see these mistakes. I'm sick like I just played for the Packers"

Roger Goodell needs to do something. To do nothing would mean that he is okay with the worst call ever, which will count as a loss for the Green Bay Packers when they really won.
