Los Angeles Residents Want to See the Man 'Living' in a California Billboard; It's a Promotion for 'The Last House'

To what length will Netflix go to promote a movie? In the latest stunt, they have a man "living" in a billboard house.

According to the L.A. Times, there is an unidentified man living in a West Hollywood billboard since Thursday, August 6, 2026, in a promotion for an upcoming Netflix thriller, "The Last House."

He is staying in a furnished living room with windows to the outside and air conditioning. Below his window to the outside, it says, "How long can you survive?" in blue text on the shutters.

How long he will remain in the billboard remains a mystery and is causing quite a conversation among local residents.

A Man is Trying to Communicate from a Los Angeles Billboard

The man sometimes uses a dry-erase whiteboard to try to communicate with people below. One of his messages to the people below was, "I'm stuck."

In the Netflix movie, a family of four must survive inside a house with limited resources for an extended period of time. They must figure out how to survive as food supplies run low, and learn about the dangers they face.

In many ways, the movie is similar to A Quiet Place.

The stunt has blown up on social media, and many locals have tried to get a closer look at the man in the billboard. One resident said, "It makes you want to go watch the movie." People just want to get a look at him and see what he is doing up on the billboard. One person was there celebrating their birthday (she was wearing a birthday hat), while another couple was there celebrating their 40th Anniversary.

The unidentified man inside the billboard has been seen walking around in pajamas in the small living room area and has drawn many spectators, sometimes gathering in a crowd.

An Arizona Boy's Rare Topps Rookie Redemption Baseball Card Sells for Nearly $75,000 at Auction

An Arizona father and son duo make an incredible discovery while enjoying their hobby of card collecting that nets them almost $75,000 USD.

Father Son Card Collectors
Mason and Bradley Deane

Channel 4 NBC Los Angeles reported an incredible story of a father and son who were enjoying their hobby of collecting baseball cards, when they made a discovery of a lifetime.

Father and Son Find a Rare Redemption Card in a Box of Topps Chrome Black

Hobby card collectors Bradley and Mason Deane like to go to DNA Cards and Collectibles regularly for fun -- there is one at 10654 N 32nd St. in Phoenix, Arizona. While on one of their regular trips, Bradley asked his son if he was feeling lucky. This is one of their common rituals while making a trip to the card store.

On this particular trip, son Mason was feeling lucky, so they decided to buy a box of Topps Chrome Black baseball cards. After opening the packs, they were lucky, indeed.

Inside a pack, they found a rare redemption card redeemable for a signed rookie card of Chicago White Sox player Munetaka Murakami. An image of that redemption card (can be seen below).

Deane Family Put the Topps Redemption Card Up for Auction

After much thought and deliberation, the Deane family decided to put the rare card up for auction. Bradley wondered if he was doing the right thing.

He said, "I was sweating bullets as a father. Like, 'Is this teh right thing? Is this the right thing? Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Is it gonna work?'

They watched the auction closely, and it ended up at almost $75,000 USD. DNA Cards and Collectibles was also excited for the Deane family and their success with the auction.

Bradley Deane wants to set aside the auction winnings to go towards his son's college education.

Post Recap & Summary

A routine father-and-son trip to a local card shop in Arizona turned into a life-changing moment when 9-year-old Mason Deane pulled a one-of-a-kind redemption card for a signed rookie card of Chicago White Sox star Munetaka Murakami from a box of Topps Chrome Black baseball cards. The unique card—Murakami's first American MLB rookie autograph release—was later authenticated and placed up for auction.

The auction exceeded the family's expectations, with the card ultimately selling for nearly $75,000. Mason's father, Bradley Deane, admitted he was anxious throughout the auction process but was thrilled by the final result. The owner of DNA Cards and Collectibles, where the card was purchased, said it may be the biggest sale in the store's history.

The Deane's plan to use the auction winnings for Mason's college fund.

California Woman Hands out Potatoes Instead of Candy for Halloween & Kids Love it

A woman in Los Angeles County, California, decided to hand out potatoes at her house on Halloween, and received a very positive response from kids wanting to get potatoes in their candy bag. In fact, it was so popular, she ran out of potatoes "shockingly fast."

Nina Ries

CBS LA reported that Nina Ries in La Cañada Flintridge of Los Angeles County handed out russet potatoes instead of candy for Halloween, and the kids kept coming. She didn't realize how fast she would run out of potatoes after discovering how popular it would be. Kids were running down the street to her house, while other children were giving each other high fives.

She said, "To say that I was surprised was an understatement."

Create Happy Memories by Handing out Russet Potatoes at Halloween 🥔

Halloween 2025
Kids Finding a Bowl of Potatoes on Halloween

Handing out russet potatoes instead of candy at Halloween is an unexpectedly delightful twist that turns an ordinary tradition into a memorable and fun event. While candy is the norm, a potato’s sheer novelty makes it stand out—kids are first puzzled, then amused, and often end up loving the surprise of receiving something so different. It sparks laughter, curiosity, and even a bit of friendly bragging as they show off their “Halloween potato” to friends. The idea breaks the monotony of sugar overload and adds a playful, wholesome sense of humor to the night—proving that sometimes, it’s the simplest and most unexpected gestures that create the best memories.

FBI is Investigating Bizarre Case of a Russian Man that Flew from Europe to Los Angeles Without a Passport, Visa or Plane Ticket

A Russian man flew from Europe to Los Angeles without a passport, visa, or plane ticket, and the FBI want to know how he did it.

airplane

This is definitely a bizarre case of amnesia.

Russian Man Flew from Europe to Los Angeles Without Passport, Visa, or Plane Ticket

Sergey Vladimirovich Ochigava, landed at LAX on Nov. 4, 2023 on a Scandinavian Airlines flight from Copenhagen. He showed up at the customs checkpoint without a passport or visa and was not listed as a passenger on the flight manifest,

What makes this case strange is he claimed to be confused and couldn’t remember getting on the plane or how he got past security and boarded the flight without documents.

Ochigava exhibited strange and unusual behavior during the flight, such as wandering around, changing seats, asking for two meals, and trying to eat the cabin crew’s chocolate.

No, you cannot have the cabin crew's chocolate without asking nicely.

The FBI is Still Investigating this Case

The FBI filed a federal complaint charging Ochigava with being a stowaway on an aircraft. The FBI said the investigation is still ongoing and they are trying to figure out how Ochigava managed to get on the plane without a ticket and bypass security checks. The flight’s crew members conducted head counts for their individual sections before the flight, but those were intended to ensure the plane was balanced for landing and takeoff. It was only after the flight landed that the airline discovered its passenger count was one person above the manifest, which makes this a very strange case.

Ochigava is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Downtown Los Angeles and is expected to be in court later this month. He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the stowaway charge. He could also face immigration and deportation issues as he has no legal status in the US. His case has raised security and safety concerns for the airline industry and the authorities.

This is a mystery that might take some time to figure out.

Hopefully the FBI will solve this strange mystery in Los Angeles.

Workers Encounter Rats in the Basement and the Rooftop Skytop Terrace Restaurant at the W Hollywood Hotel

The W Hollywood Hotel should have pest control on speed dial after five cooks, servers and receivers filed a complaint due to the ongoing rodent problem, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.

W Hollywood Hotel is Having Rat Issues According to Workers

Unite Here Local 11 represents workers who witnessed "rats and mice running around stored food" at the W Hollywood Hotel located at 6250 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood, CA.

The L.A. Times reported that the workers "discovered bags of flour and rice covered in what appeared to be rat feces, urine, and bite marks." They reported "every rodent encounter to management" with a messaging application.

The rodents have been seen at both the Sky Terrace on the 12th floor of the W Hotel, but mostly "in the storage rooms in the basement" of the W Hotel. This is where workers saw mice and rats "dashing around the stored food," which troubled the employees.

As a result, management set traps to catch the rodents, and asked workers to "clean more thoroughly," but despite efforts, the traps and increased cleaning did not resolve the "rodent infestation."

Unite Here Local 11 union reported the complaint on 16 November 2023 on behalf of five cooks, servers, and receivers who work or have worked there. They attached photos and video footage of live and dead mice and rats and evidence of rodent feces and urine taken between May 3 to October 12, 2023.

The Sky Terrace has remained open despite the rodent complaints.

Mosaic LLC, which operates Sky Terrace released a statement.

It read:

“We take health and safety very seriously and follow standards that meet or exceed health and safety regulations,” a Mosaic representative said in a statement. The spokesperson added that the hospitality group is "ready to assist OSHA or the L.A. County Department of Public Health with any related inquiries.”

Nick Remedio, general manager of the W Hollywood Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard said they work with "a leading pest control company on an ongoing basis and engage[s] them for any specific concerns reported within the building."

The workers said the rodent problem has been "recurring and persistent," and that the inspections did not reflect the "reality of the situation." They said they hope the complaint will prompt the authorities to take more serious action and hold the restaurant operator accountable.

Los Angeles Health Department Shut Down Three Storage Rooms Temporarily in July 2023 After Rodent Problems

Back at the end of July (2023), the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health "shut down there of the storage rooms operated by Mosaic LLC for 48 hours after they found dozens of rodent droppings in the facilities, according to official documents provided by the agency to the L.A. Times and "one of the three storage rooms lacked a public health permit."

Around this time a server at the Sky Terrace restaurant uncovered the credenza on the rooftop of the restaurant and found a glue trap near silverware with two mice stuck on it, one dead and the other alive. Management instructed the server to throw the mice into the trash. That same morning, that same server found another live mouse stuck in a trap along the wall of the restaurant.

However, it was noted that at the same time as the storage room problems, the Sky Terrace had no signs of rodent activity and received an "A" health inspection grade.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health re-inspected on August 2, 2023, and found that "all of the violations had been corrected."

Workers allege that the rodent problem came back after this re-inspection.

One of the chefs asked a receiver to get a bag of flour in the storage room and bring it up to the Sky Terrace kitchen on the 12th floor. When it was delivered, the bag had an obvious tear and contained rodent feces and urine residue. The receiver was disgusted to see the rat droppings and yellow evidence of urine.

The chef asked the receiver to dispose of "half of the flour" and "intended to use the other half."

Only a month after this incident, another server noticed rodents inside the Sky Terrace restaurant.

One line cook said: "Nowhere have I seen rodents in the workplace like that, and the managers knew about the vermin." He stopped eating food from the kitchen after that.

Is Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18 Helping the City Fix Homelessness?

Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18
Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18 affects the homeless

41.18 is an Ordinance that Affects Homeless People in Los Angeles

True statistic: The city of Los Angeles only has enough shelter beds to house 39% of the city's homeless population.

The residents of Los Angeles and the state of California understand the serious problems that come with a large homeless population, but without a proper solution to address it. Those who experience homelessness and oppose Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18 can be seen wearing buttons or t-shirts that read: "41.18=Death."

Nine months after the city of Los Angeles passed the new and revised ordinance 41.18, city workers installed more than 100 metal signs at various locations throughout the city with a warning to the homeless population that they must leave those specific locations.

What is Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18?

In 2021, the city of Los Angeles passed a law to take on the homeless population known as Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18, (or LAMC 41.18), which says it is illegal to sit, sleep, and lie down on any street, sidewalk, and public right-of-way.

Will this new and revised LAMC 41.18 help homelessness?

It appears that the City Council is trying to legislate the homeless problem away without actually solving it. Most of the homeless affected are left asking: "Where am I supposed to go?"

New and Revised Version of Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18 was Approved by the City Council in July 2021

The Los Angeles city council approved the new and revised version of Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18 on Wednesday, July 28, and on Thursday, July 29, it was signed by the Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Two city council members, one being Mike Bonin, opposed this revised version of 41.18.

What did the revised version of Los Angeles Municipal Code 41.18 do?

The new and revised version of LAMC 41.18 expands this ordinance to include:

  • being within 2 feet of any fire hydrant
  • being within 5 feet of any operational entrance or exit
  • being within 10 feet of a loading dock or driveway
  • Daycare centers
  • Libraries
  • Parks
  • Schools
Note: Enforcement in new areas cannot take place until the city council has reviewed and voted on the new area.

The ordinance allows the City Council to include by resolution areas within 500 feet of the following locations:
  • Bridges
  • Freeway ramps
  • Pedestrian bridges
  • Overpasses
  • Subways
  • Tunnels
  • Underpasses
  • Washes or spreading grounds
The Los Angeles city council can also pass by resolution areas within 1,000 feet of any place opened since 2018 that provides shelter, safe sleeping, safe parking, or navigation centers for people experiencing homelessness.

LAMC 41.18 is not supposed to impact homeless encampments in city parks, however, other ordinances already ban camping in Los Angeles parks.

Council Member Mike Bonin Opposed the New and Revised LAMC 41.18

Mike Bonin posted his passionate position on July 1, 2021, with comments on this issue on why he did not agree with the new and revised LAMC 41.18. In the video, he personally speaks about his opposition to the revised LAMC 41.18 but also gives his first-hand perspective of being homeless at one time in his life.
