Only once before have the two premium channels worked out a deal for a boxing match. This was when Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson.

It wasn't until Leslie Moonvies (known as the CBS CEO), got together with Bob Arum (Pacquiao promoter), and HBO CEO Richard Plepler, and finally worked out a deal.

Then Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao met publicly face-to-face at a Heat-Bucks NBA basketball game at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL.

Freddie Roach Knows How to beat Floyd Mayweather in a Fight

One of Manny Pacquiao's advantages is that he has Freddy Roach as a trainer, who had previously trained Oscar De La Hoya at the time that he boxed Floyd Mayweather. From his previous experience, Freddie Roach has come up with a blueprint to beat Floyd Mayweather, and it includes a lot of jabs.

Freddie Roach looked back at the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight, and said that De La Hoya was perfect in the first six rounds, because he was able to "cut of the ring" from Mayweather. This tactic worked, because Mayweather is comfortable and likes to operate near the ropes, which is why Mayweather is considered on the of best technical boxers ever, with very few mistakes in body position in the ring.

When Mayweather moves his body backwards in the boxing ring, he opening up some room to work punches in.  When the opponent follows him back, he does an evade, and then returns a quick counter attack.

The Freddie Roach BluePrint for Manny Pacquiao: 2 Keys to Success

There are two keys for Manny Pacquiao's success in the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather:
  1. Move Mayweather backwards in his attacks, but don't step in to follow.  If Pacquiao follows his step back, he must quickly land punches and jabs, but then quickly get out.
  2. Mayweather may not attempt a step back.  Freddie Roach calls this Mayweather technique "setting a trap." Manny Pacquiao must not attempt to box Mayweather straight on, because Mayweather will have the advantage.
Manny Pacquiao is considered a powerhouse offensive fighter that uses his speed and quickness, and other boxers have said that Manny Pacquiao hits very hard.

Mayweather is excellent at throwing over the top counter punches and right punches, which is Pacquiao's problem.
