Korean Researchers Have Developed a 'Groundbreaking Technology' to Turn Cancer Cells Back into Normal Cells

Scientists may have found a way to manipulate and reprogram cancer cells back into non-cancerous cells in groundbreaking new research at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Groundbreaking Technology that Reverts Cancer Cells into Non-Malignant State

IFL Science reported on the findings by the Korean research team and their groundbreaking technology to force cancer cells back into non-cancerous cells.

This type of cell manipulation is called "cancer reversion," which is when cancer cells regress back to their differentiated and non-malignant state.

The research team was led by Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho from the Dept. of Bio and Brain Engineering at KAIST, which focused on observing cancer cells during the oncogenesis process. This is when cells become cancerous. The team then developed a technology that "builds a digital twin of the gene network associated with the cell's normal differentiation trajectory."

The Korean research team was able to "systematically identify master molecular switches that induce normal differentiation."

They then modified the switches on existing colon cancer cells in animals, and the team observed them revert to a "normal-like state."

Kwang-Hyun Cho said in a statement:

"The fact that cancer cells can be converted back to normal cells is an astonishing phenomenon. This study proves that such reversion can be systematically induced."
He also said:

"This research introduces the novel concept of reversible cancer therapy by reverting cancer cells to normal cells. It also develops foundational technology for identifying targets for cancer reversion through the systematic analysis of normal cell differentiation trajectories."
Past studies have shown problems such as limited scalability and other issues. The Korean research team developed a computational framework in this study to overcome limitations for single-cell Boolean network interference and control (BENEIN).

Woman with Type 1 Diabetes is Producing Her Own Insulin Again After Receiving a 'Groundbreaking' Transplant

Nature reported that a 25-year-old woman living with type 1 diabetes "began producing her own insulin again" less than three months after she received a transplant that contained reprogrammed stem cells.

Groundbreaking Procedure Offers Hope for Curing Type 1 Diabetes

Nature reported that this "groundbreaking procedure offers hope for the treatment of type 1 diabetes" that does not involve immunosuppressant drugs or donor tissue.

The University of Wisconsin at Madison reported that this is "the first person with the disease to be treated using cells that were extracted from her own body."

The woman lives in Tianjin, China but chooses to remain anonymous. When Nature interviewed her, it had been more than a year since she received a transplant.

The woman said, "I can eat sugar now. I enjoy eating everything -- especially hotpot."

Other medical professionals have confirmed that the results are groundbreaking.

James Shapiro, who is a researcher and transplant surgeon at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, said:

"They've completely reversed diabetes in the patient, who was requiring substantial amounts of insulin beforehand."

The woman is now producing her own insulin and many medical researchers are taking note of the positive results.

Atlanta Man Pays $9k for Shed from Home Depot in Cartersville, GA & Nothing Happens for 52 Days

An Atlanta man purchased a shed from Home Depot in Cartersville, GA for $9,058.03 and after not hearing anything from them for 52 days, he wondered when he would receive his shed.

Shed

11Alive News reported that Atlanta resident Warren Kale found a tool shed he liked for his backyard at a Home Depot in Cartersville, GA. He paid $9,058.03 for the shed with his debit card and thought he would hear back from Home Depot that week, but he did not.

Home Depot Told Customer: 'Your Money Went Somewhere, but We Don't Know Where'

52 days had passed and he had not heard from them, so he went back to the Cartersville Home Depot store to find out what had happened.

According to Kale, the store told him "there was a glitch in the computer," and that "his money had gone somewhere, but they didn't know where."

Kale continued to wait for 52 days, and nothing happened, so he was concerned that he would not be able to get a refund. He went to his bank, and then he went to 11Allive News.

After 11Alive News got involved and contacted both Home Depot and Ameris Bank, finally the bank refunded Kale $9,058.03 back into his account.

While this was an ordeal for Kale, he was determined to get his tool shed. He went back to Home Depot and repurchased the shed, and it is now fully assembled in his backyard.

Why Did UPS Leave 'Unattended Packages' at the Clubhouse on Green Mountain in Huntsville, AL?

Why did UPS leave packages unattended at a clubhouse parking lot on Green Mountain?

That's what everyone wants to know after a local Huntsville man made the startling discovery on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Packages
Unattended packages left in a parking lot on Green Mountain

Jim, a Huntsville man, found unattended packages in the clubhouse parking lot on Green Mountain on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. He sat for over an hour waiting for someone to return, but no one did while he was there.

WAFF 48 News Went to Green Mountain Clubhouse & Unattended Packages Were Gone

WAFF 48 News returned to this location later in the day with Jim, and the packages were gone. UPS sent a message saying that "they were trying to figure out what happened." WAFF also went to an address that was on one of the packages, which was about five miles away from this parking lot.

They checked with that homeowner, who confirmed that they had not received their package after several hours.

It is unknown if any of the packages left unattended were Christmas presents.

Local Resident Jim Spoke About Finding the Packages

Jim, a concerned Huntsville resident sat with the unattended packages to see if anyone would return within the hour. No one did, and he contacted WAFF 48 News.

Jim said:

“I mean this is an ethical dilemma at this point. Somebody just had total faith that nothing would happen to those packages up here. Thank you for thinking that way of the residents up here. But it only takes one person to take all of those. I just don’t understand what would be going through a driver’s mind to just unload them and leave them unprotected.”

Jim also said:

“It’s almost unfathomable at this point. But you see it all the time, porch pirates,” He said concerned. “At this point they would have had early Christmas if they’d have pulled into this parking lot.”

The UPS spokesperson said, "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. UPS takes the security of customers' packages very seriously and we're looking into the situation."

Have you ever experienced an issue with UPS or delayed delivery on a package?
